About Us

Summary

JACMET will be a national model for collaboration between industry and universities to provide career-long, professional learning for graduate engineers who work in manufacturing and product development. By making use of innovative and appropriate means of delivery, JACMET programs will be affordable and accessible, and will encourage learners to take active charge of their own ongoing education. New courses at the post-graduate level will be developed and a new degree program investigated.

Purpose

Improve the performance of the engineering work force in manufacturing operations. Prepare practicing engineers for career redirection due to defense conversion activities of their employers. Create a new system of graduate engineering education which is simultaneously industry driven and of appropriate academic quality and acceptance so as to provide a national role model for possible use in any location significantly impacted by defense conversion.Expand our instructional resource base by directly involving engineers in industry in both curriculum development and program instruction. Devise methods to extend the impact of these programs nationally through variouselectronic networks and other companies and organizations.

Funding

The TRP provides a total of up to $900,000 for this project. Participants in the project are providing more than this amount in cost sharing, including $180,000/year in cash and one FTE staff member per sponsor per year.

Benefits to the Defense Sector

One of the special interests is to help engineers displaced due to defense industry cutback in obtaining education to enhance their career opportunities. There are some funds to cover the tuition and fees of unemployed engineers.
