Decision-Oriented Risk Management
Course Description
If you are taking the Chief Engineer Certificate Program, you will be aware that technical leadership has a significant risk management component. The basis for the course is:
- Decisions combine many technical and business factors
- At that level, all inputs have some uncertainty
- Significant risk is attached to every decision
- If risk becomes reality, there are undesired outcomes
- So risk has to be recognized, quantified and managed
- The best solutions start with the risk component of every decision.
To reduce this cycle of reasoning to practical measures, the course is built around two major features:
- How technical decision-making interacts with project management
- Developing a personal template that can be used to tackle risk opportunities.
It is a very practical “how to” course that has evolved through many interactions with technical leaders in the participating JACMET companies. It is an important skill for every decision-maker and there are many common features across all engineering functions.
No previous Chief Engineer Certificate Program content is assumed so the course can also be taken as a stand-alone course by engineers who would like to manage their exposure to risk in technical decision-making.
Intended Audience
- Project managers and project team members as well as area managers
When & Where
- This course is taught for two (2) days. Note: You must attend all 16 hours to complete the course.
