Role of The Chief Engineer
Description
This course introduces
the series that leads to a JACMET Chief Engineer Certificate. Although titles
vary according to individual company practice, all major business have technical
leaders who face very similar challenges across all industry sectors. The
Certificate is a response to the reality that senior engineers have to manage an
increasingly wide range of strategic technical issues and communicate their
conclusions effectively at all levels of the company.
The Role of the Chief
Engineer course provides an overview of the functions that senior engineers have
to carry out and shows how the other more specific topics covered in the
Certificate contribute. The scope of the course is:
- What the job entails – interviews with Chief Engineers and analysis of their role.
- The product life cycle and the contribution of the Chief Engineer at all levels.
- Skills and competencies for the job – contributions of the other Certificate courses.
- How the job is evolving with pointers to future skills and challenges.
Objectives
- Capture the scope and challenges of the job
- Provide a series of guidelines for personal development
- Examine current practice and deduce key features.
Intended Audience
- Experienced engineers who may wish to become a Chief Engineer and Engineering leaders who need to strengthen their technical skills.
