Software Inspections
Description
This one-day program provides a fast-paced comprehensive presentation of the software inspection process. The software inspection process is a proven technique for shortening development cycle time, increasing product quality and improving development processes. The inspection process is applicable for all work-products including software requirements, design, code, tests, user documentation, code fixes and modifications. If done right, inspections are extremely cost-effective. However, if they are performed by untrained individuals merely going through the motions of some required task, they can be very time consuming and ineffective. Effective inspections require a well-defined process that includes planning, preparation, meeting, rework and follow-up activities. Job-aids such as work-product specific checklists are also essential. Specific roles must also be performed on the part of the inspection team. Metrics and defect information must be captured to fine tune the inspection processes and provide the support necessary for process improvement.
This course provides all of the necessary information to tailor software inspections to an organization. Participants will learn in detail about each of the software inspection process steps and roles and how they can be customized to their organization. Participants also will receive comprehensive work-product checklists and instruction on data and metrics to collect to support process improvement activities. Actual inspection experience will also be provided via class exercises. Participants will learn how to motivate individuals to participate in inspections and how to assess the impact that inspections have in their organization.
